SSF 2019 Featured DJ MUSICAT


Born in Venezuela and living in Miami, Alejandra Romero AKA DJ MUSICAT isn’t shy about being eclectic when she’s spinning music. She can turns up any event into a memorable experience and whoever has been at a party where she DJs, knows it.

Her style is a result of blending old school with new school, with large and varied influences from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s dance music and Latin beats, bringing decades of joy to her crowd, and this is how little by little MUSICAT is taking over part of the Miami Scene. Yet the entertainment business is nothing new for her. Back in Venezuela, she worked as Producer and Stage Manager for many years with a lot of well-known international artists.

“Music inspired me to work in the entertainment industry for more than 25 years and now here I’m, spinning here and there. MUSICAT is a tribute to my loves: Music, My Cats, My Country and ALL those who have dared to pursue their dreams” she said.

She’s been featured as guest DJ on National TV Telemundo’s Morning Show “Un Nuevo Dia” with DJ/ Influencer Gianluca Bacci and Former Miss Universe and TV Hostess Zuleyka Rivera. Her breakthrough as a DJ was a residency at The Chill Concept Miami in Wynwood during Latin Sound Connection 2015 concert series, and most recently as Locales Festival Bayside 30th, The Best of Miami New Times 30th anniversary, Miami Beach Gay Pride, among others.

Her style and the way she drives the dance floor to the next level is giving a new spark at South Florida scene.

Whether she's hosting a spoken word event, music festival, or playing the role of a santera or vixen, Deborah Magdalena makes every emotion super real. This performance artist has acquired impressive TV & Film credits for the past twenty years including Sesame Street (CTW), Apollo Comedy Hour (Tribune Entertainment), Safe Harbor (Warner Brothers), Striptease (Castle Rock), Holyman (Caravan), and For Love or Country (HBO). As a published spoken word artist Deborah has released three CDs, a chapbook, and the spoken word musical FUNKdalena. As an artist-activist she’s the founder of Spoken Soul Festival, a twelve year old, three-day festival that helps women artists go from novice to professionals. As an educator Deborah for the past eight years has led in-school presentations in numerous high schools for the National YoungArts Foundation, is the co-founder of Piano Slam, and led various workshops for local art organizations like Miami Light Project and Institute of Contemporary Art Miami. Most recently and for the seventh year in a row, she was invited by the Arsht Center and Ailey Arts & Education Foundation to serve as the Creative Communication instructor for Ailey Camp Miami.
